PRODUCTS WE LOVE

Over the years we’ve tried and tested hundreds of products, from toys to food to shampoos to supplements. Below are the items we love and the reasons why along with links to get you to the right product.

DAILY SKIN CARE/HEALTH

Bulldogs require daily care and maintenance, such as wiping facial folds, paws and butts, but every so often you may run into skin issues and the items below have proven to be effective in remedying a great many things.

  • Huggies Natural Care Sensitive Wipes These are great all around from wiping butts, to facial folds, to paws and ears.  They are gentle on the skin, cost effective, and easy to find in stores.
  • A&D OintmentGood for minor skin irritations and non-toxic to dogs. Can also be used for facial folds to help wick moisture away.
  • Wondercide Hypoallergenic Shampoo Bar Makes bath time a breeze, gentle on skin, washes out easy, no harmful chemicals.
  • Natural Dog Company Snout Soothers All natural products designed for skin, paws, and noses.  Bulldogs can be very sensitive to a variety of things, so the limited ingredient all natural products are best.  There are also great educational articles on their website.
  • Sulfodene 3 Way Ointment A first aid wound care ointment that helps prevent infection, relieves pain and provides a barrier against insects and germs. Use on minor cuts, scrapes, bites, abrasions and skin irritations to help healing. Treat sore spots associated with scratching, hair loss and redness.
  • HibiclensThis antiseptic skin cleanser is strong enough to kill germs that live on the skin but gentle enough for routine washing. Hibiclens begins killing germs on contact and proves to be a great shampoo/cleanser when bulldogs experience skin issues
  • Squishy Face Paste  Tear stains can occur sometimes, even with distilled water and a stainless steel bowl. When that happens we use this paste to help soothe the area and keep it dry.
  • Gold Bond Original Powder Great for skin irritations and hot spots. While we’d love for our bullies to never need this, it’s wonderful to have on hand if a hot spot pops up. They can widen/spread quickly. This helps keep them dry and prevents spreading while aiding healing.

TOYS/CHEWS

Bulldogs are considered “power chewers”, and as such can destroy a great many toys.  These are the toys we have found to last the longest in our house while still providing lots of fun.

  • West Paw Zogoflex Zwig – Great for tug of war sessions as well as just a chew toy. Better than ropes that eventually wear down and come unraveled and the slight give to the recycled material is easy on your pup’s teeth.
  • Chuckit! Ultra Rubber Ball – Medium – These balls are borderline indestructible. Our resident ball-obsessed, destroyer of all toys Adaline has yet to send one of these to the toy cemetery. Perfect size with lots of give.
  • Benebone Wishbone – Medium (all flavors) Perfect for the bulldog power chewers. No large pieces that break off, and design makes it easy for your dog to hold on to it. Just watch your step! These are NO FUN to step on!
  • Deer Antlers – Deer antler chews make excellent dog chews because they last longer than most artificial chews and they contain many beneficial bio-nutrients, providing healthy alternative for your pet.
  • West Paw Zogoflex Skamp – Much like the Zwig, this toy is great for chewing, tug of war, and fetching.
  • KONG – Wubba – X-Large – Great for fetching, tug-o-war, and pool time play. While not completely indestructible, holds up well like most Kong toys.
  • Benebone Maple Stick – Large – Much like the Wishbone, these are perfect for the power chewers. No large pieces that break off, and design makes it easy for your dog to hold on to it. Just watch your step! These are NO FUN to step on!
  • Jolly Ball – Wonderful for outside play on cooler days. Borderline indestructible. Ours bullies are absolutely OBSESSED with these balls.
  • Kong Classic – Large – Great play/chew toy all on its own, but throw a little peanut butter in the middle and you’ll keep your bullie occupied for a while.

TREATS/SUPPLEMENTS

While we love the food our dogs eat as it works well for them, we know that food is not a “one kind fits all” situation, and as such we do not promote any particular brand/kind of food/kibble. We do however love the items noted below and know they work well for a great many dogs.

  • Smuckers Natural Peanut ButterGreat for a treat or used to coat any medicine if needed.  Place some in a KONG Classic toy and it will keep your bully occupied for a long time. Upside to natural is no worrying about added sugars or Xylitol.
  • Proviable DC – Probiotic to maintain good gut health.  This is excellent during bouts of diarrhea, but also as a daily supplement
  • Cosequin Maximum Strength Joint Supplement Plus MSM – with Glucosamine and ChondroitinCartilage and joint supplement. Excellent for aging dogs and those with arthritis and joint issues.
  • Nupro Joint & Immunity Support Supports normal joint structure, function and flexibility as well as promoting optimal overall health and well-being.
  • Distilled water – for daily drinking water when served out of a stainless steel bowl, distilled water as a replacement to tap or spring drinking water helps prevent and reduce tear staining
  • Fruits and VeggiesAll dogs loves treats, and we love to give them, but maintaining a healthy weight for a bulldog is so important. This is why we use healthy treats for training and rewards. ALWAYS check to make sure a particular food it not toxic prior to feeding.  Reference our Human Food Guide.
  • Coconut Oil – There are so many benefits to feeding your bullie coconut oil. Unrefined, Cold Pressed, Virgin Organic are all things you want to look for when purchasing. Check our coconut oil page here for all the healthy benefits!
  • Bitch Pills – Funny name yet excellent for our pregnant and nursing mommas. An all-in-one prenatal supplement that supports the female dog prior to breeding and throughout pregnancy, nursing, and weaning providing  vitamins, minerals, and micronutrients to support the overall health of female dogs.

BEDS, BOWLS, and MORE

We’re asked all the time what our bullies love, what works best, what was that “thing” I saw in your story, and where did we purchase those items. Below are all of the “other” things not included above.

  • PetFusion BetterLounge Dog Bed w/Solid Orthopedic Memory Foam – Our bullies are absolutely OBSESSED with this bed and we’re obsessed with how easy it is to clean and the waterproof liner, which means the foam on the inside doesn’t get stinky and dirty.
  • Dogbed4less Orthopedic Memory Foam Dog Bed – If you’ve watched our stories on Instagram then you’ve seen this huge bed with a pile of bulldogs on it. Another waterproof liner, which we love!
  • Cu Bowl Copper Water Bowl – A slime free water bowl is a dog owners dream! Well your dreams have come true with this bowl. We didn’t believe it until we tried it and it’s like a mini-miracle. They are fairly lightweight, so we recommend the no-tip version.
  • Gentle Deshedding Brush Gloves – Perfect for dogs that hate a brush like the Furminator. Your bullie gets lots of pets while you reduce the hair in your home. Win, Win!!
  • Barkbox Odorless Activated Charcoal Pee Pads – The activated charcoal in these pads reduces the smell of urine tremendously along with being super absorbent. They also contain a pheromone attractant to help your puppy find the pad, signaling the correct place to potty.
